Rock Out! Outdoor Climbing

Add Description

Why RockOUT?

Add Description The Rock Club is the first and only climbing gym program in the nation accredited by the American Mountain Guides Association. Why does this matter when choosing a program for your kids?  First, because the “AMGA grants Accreditation to companies who meet or exceed the high operational standards required by the American Mountain Guides Association during an extensive safety and business review of their operations.” This means that our program meets the highest standards and our staff are certified professionals.  Secondly, accreditation gives The Rock Club access to the best climbing in the region.  The best climbing sites require program accreditation for groups.  We have it, so we don’t have to subcontract with guiding services or settle for lesser climbing sites.  For more information on the AMGA check out their website here.

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday: In the gym climbing like crazy, developing technique that we use outdoors, checking out our super cool high-flying rope elements, learning to belay, and more!!!

Wednesday and Friday:  We head outdoors for some climbing on real rock! We climb on all different kinds of walls from totally vertical to steep to crack climbing.  Everyone also gets to try rappelling. The views are stunning, the routes are great, and everyone has a blast. There’s nothing like climbing outdoors and this is the perfect opportunity for your kids to get a taste of it!

THE CLIMBING AREA

Add Description

Our primary climbing site is the Peterskill area of the Minnewaska State Preserve just outside New Paltz, NY.  Peters Kill is a “little brother” to the famous Gunks cliffs just down the road and an unrivaled site for beginning outdoor climbers.  Unlike the Gunks, the Peterskill area is relatively compact and unintimidating.  The rock is wonderful for climbing and also offers outstanding bouldering for all levels.  Finally, Peterskill limits the number of climbers to minimize environmental impact for an exceptionally high quality experience.
Note:  TRC reserves the right to use alternate outdoor sites if necessary.  These sites offer the same high quality experience as Peterskill.

THE INSTRUCTORS

Our lead instructors, Gregg Vigliotti and Meghan McDonald, have years of climbing experience, both indoors and out.  Both are licensed NY State Guides and also certified by the American Mountain Guide Association (AMGA) for single-pitch outdoor instruction. They are also both CPR and First Aid certified and Leave No Trace Outdoor Leaders.

THE NUTS & BOLTS
